Hickory – Audiences are loving “The Mel Brooks Musical YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN,” currently on stage at the Hickory Community Theatre. The show has just four more performances, this Thursday through Sunday, before the run is over. Thursday night is a discount show, with tickets just $14 for adults and $10 for youth and students.
“This has been such a fun show to do,” said Pamela Livingstone, the Theatre’s Artistic Director, “and I’m so pleased that our audiences are having as much fun watching it as the company and I had putting it together.”
The show is Mel Brooks’ brilliant stage adaptation of his hilarious film, “Young Frankenstein.” Grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced “Fronk-en-steen”) inherits his family’s estate in Transylvania. With the help of a hunchbacked side-kick, Igor (pronounced “Eye-gore”), and a leggy lab assistant, Inga (pronounced normally), Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors. “It’s alive!” he exclaims as he brings to life a creature to rival his grandfather’s. Eventually, of course, the monster escapes and hilarity continuously abounds.
Every bit as relevant to audience members who will remember the original as it will be to newcomers, Young Frankenstein has all the panache of the screen sensation with a little extra theatrical flair added. It will surely be the perfect opportunity for a production company to showcase an array of talents. With such memorable tunes as “The Transylvania Mania,” “He Vas My Boyfriend” and “Puttin’ On The Ritz,” Young Frankenstein is scientifically-proven, monstrously good entertainment.
Performances are Thursday May 19 at 7:30pm, Friday and Saturday May 20 and 21 at 8:00pm, and Sunday May 22 at 2:30pm on the Jeffers Theatre Mainstage.
Thursday night tickets are $14 for all adults (including seniors) and $10 for children and students. Fridays through Sundays, regular price tickets are $20 for Friday through Sunday, with a $2 discount for seniors (age 60+), and tickets for children and students at $10 each.
