scarlett-brownValdese, NC- The annual Valdese “Treats in the Streets” will be held on October 31st beginning at 4:00pm in the downtown area.  Every year for Halloween the Valdese Merchant’s Association partners with the Town of Valdese to hold this community event. Local merchants hand out candy from 4:00pm until 6:00pm and immediately following a costume contest will be held in the town parking area. Prizes will be awarded for the following age groups:

Ages 5 to 8- 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes
Ages 9 to 12- 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes

This year boasts special judges for the costume contest. Selecting the winners for each age category will be the costumer, Jeri Boerger and general manager, Vickie Hyde from our local community theatre group, Old Colony Players. “This is a safe and fun event for the entire family,” states Morrissa Angi, Community Affairs Director for the Town of Valdese. “It is always exciting to see what the favorite character is for the year and I am always amazed at the creativity of the costumes. This year the event has also been pushed back an hour in effort to accommodate those with busier schedules.”
