Hickory – ACAP-Hickory (Adult Children of Aging Parents) presents “Preventing Those Nasty Falls” on Tuesday, September 13, 5:30-7:00 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Hickory (2780 N. Center Street, Hickory).
As our loved ones age, they are more prone to falling, often resulting in significant injury requiring medical attention. All too frequently, falls have lasting effects that result in permanent health issues and changes in the elder’s mobility, balance, confidence, and independence.
The good news is that many falls are preventable. Making even slight changes to an elder’s activities, routines, and/or in their homes can reduce the risk of falling and help aging loved ones remain safe and more independent for longer periods of time.
The September ACAP-Hickory program will help adult-child caregivers understand movement and mobility challenges as our loved ones (and we) age and offer specific and practical tips for preventing falls in the home and in the community. Dr. Sue Friguglietti, DHA, MA, OTR/L, Associate Professor and Academic Fieldwork Coordinator, School of Occupational Therapy, Lenoir-Rhyne University, will help ACAP attendees become familiar with the relationship between aging, mobility, balance, and falls; strategies for assessing a parent’s personal and environmental risk factors for falls; and specific and practical tips for preventing falls in the home and in the community.
We hope you will join us for this important program! To register for this FREE program, please contact us at fhall@ACAPcommunity.org or, toll-free, 1-877-599-ACAP (2227).
