Hickory – State Senator Andy Wells will talk about his legislation to create a new state park in the area when he speaks to Newcomers of Catawba Valley on Wednesday, Dec. 12.

The legislation would help the state piece together land along the shoreline of the Henry Fork and Jacob Fork rivers to create the park. The land would include proposed and existing river access points, covering 35 miles.

The legislation would allow the state to buy land and accept donations of property to build the park, It has been endorsed by several local governmental bodies and is being considered by a legislative committee.

Wells represents Catawba and Alexander counties in the state legislature.

The Dec. 12 meeting is open to the public. It will be held at Hickory Regional Airport, 3101 9th Ave. Dr. NW.
