Hickory – The City of Hickory’s 2019 Sails Original Music Series will conclude for the year on Friday, September 27, with Moves.

Composed of some of the most accomplished players from Asheville’s diverse musical scene, Moves is a six-piece rock band sporting a trio of lead vocalists backed by ambulatory rhythms and inventive combinations of keys, guitars, and brass.

Like Dr. Dog, Lake Street Dive, and Vulfpeck, these experienced musicians carry on the traditions of layered instrumentation and stout three-part harmonies. On stage, they provide non-stop entertainment with each member moving seamlessly from one instrument to the next, delivering well-crafted shows with undeniable ensemble-wide chemistry that’s as much a visual treat as a sonic one.

The Moves band includes Charlie “The Captain” Humphrey on trumpet, synth, and keys; Dulci “The Pulse” Ellenberger on vocals, guitar, and keys; Hank “Lil Wid” Widmer on trombone, clarinet, synth, and keys; Kevin “The Ticket” Williams on vocals, bass, and keys; Matt “The Gift” Martin on guitar and bass; and Ross “Sauce” Montsinger on drums and percussion.

“Although this band features some familiar faces for the Sails Music stage, Moves has a whole new sound, serving up some great new grooves,” says Sails Music Coordinator Bob Sinclair.

The show begins at 6:30 p.m. and audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Olde Hickory Brewery and Shadow Line Vineyard will sell beer and wine in designated areas, and there are a variety of close-by restaurants to patronize.

“As we wrap up another great year of original music and talented musicians at the Sails Original Music Series in Downtown Hickory, we greatly appreciate all our Series’ sponsors, participating businesses, attendees, bands, and Event Coordinator Bob Sinclair. Even with the logistical challenges this season due to construction, he never fails to bring top-notch performers from across the United States to Hickory,” said Dana Kaminske, City of Hickory Communications and Marketing Manager. “We’re looking forward to seeing everyone come back out and enjoy a great musical lineup in 2020.”
