Hickory – The plot twists of “Blithe Spirit,” the next production by the Hickory Community Theatre’s Encore Players, turn on two supporting characters. One, Madame Arcati, is larger-than-life and the other, Edith the housekeeper, hangs in the background until her influence is revealed. The actors who play these roles are both relative newcomers to the Hickory stage.
Madame Arcati is played by Jill Grose, was most recently seen by Hickory audiences as Mrs. Paroo in “The Music Man” last December. She is an antique dealer who relocated to Hickory in 2014 with her husband James. While living in Colorado she played Mother Superior in “Nunsense,” Louise in “Always Patsy Cline, Gabby in “Not Waving,” the Judge in “Ten Little Indians” and Gail in “Rumors.”
Christine Levy has the role of Edith and this is her first on stage at the Theatre, but she’s been working behind the scenes for the past five seasons as a scenic painter and construction helper, as well as being an usher and helping with concessions. She was named Technical Volunteer of the Year at the 2014 Kay Awards. She moved to Hickory seven years ago from south Florida, where she studied graphic arts at the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale. She previously studied art and design at the State University of New York – Buffalo.
