Hickory – The 2018 Susan L. Coleman Castle Of Cans 20th anniversary food drive at Oktoberfest was another success for our community. The response was very generous and now the castle is adding much needed food to local agency pantries and feeding our neighbors in need.

The school collection sites: Bandys High School, Banoak Elementary School, Challenger Early College High School, Clyde Campbell Elementary School, Grandview Middle School, Hickory Christian Academy, Hickory Day School, Hickory High School, Jacob Fork Middle School, Maiden High School, River Bend Middle School, St. Stephens High School, Startown Elementary School.

Community collection sites: Clater Kaye Theaterworks, Focus Newspaper, Habitat ReStore, Hickory Choral Society, Robert Abbey Inc., Tasteful Beans Coffeehouse, Episcopal Church of the Ascension, and St. Alban’s Episcopal Church.

The winner of the private school elementary challenge : Hickory Day School, Ms. Enriquez’s 1st grade class, donating 43.9 cans per student.

The winner of the private school middle challenge: Hickory Day School, Ms. Galiszewski’s 6th grade homeroom, donating 42.3 cans per student.

The winner of the public school elementary challenge: Clyde Campbell, Ms. Farmandi’s 2nd grade class, donating 15.5 cans per student.

The winner of the public school middle challenge: Jacob Fork, Mr. Shook’s homeroom, donating 19.7 cans per student.

St. Stephens High School donated the most cans for a high school – 1,634 lbs.

Startown Elementary School donated the most cans overall for a public school – 1,652 lbs.

Hickory Day School donated the most cans overall for a private school – 2,209 lbs.
