Valdese, NC – Auditions for Old Colony Players production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical, “Oklahoma!” will be held on Sunday, January 8th and Monday, January 9th at the Old Rock School in Valdese.

Edyth Pruitt will be directing this production, with musical director, Marny Pritchard, and dance choreographer, Sonya Briggs.

“’Oklahoma!’ is Rodgers and Hammerstein’s first musical and it has been beloved by audiences forever,” Pruitt says. “I am so excited to be able to direct this play and work with people in Burke County and the surrounding areas. We have some of the most talented people around!”

Pruitt says that she is also excited to be working with Pritchard and Briggs. “Sonya is a wonderful choreographer and runs Sonya’s Dance Academy in Hickory. Marny is also amazingly talented, and well-respected in the community for her musical abilities.”

Anyone is welcome to audition for this production, though Pruitt will mainly be considering adults. “We don’t plan to use children for this show, but children are welcome to audition and make us change our minds!”

“Oklahoma!” has roles for 15-20 men and 15-20 women. Actors should come prepared to sing a short selection with an accompanist, and should be dressed in comfortable clothes for a dance audition. Actors will also read excerpts from the script.

“I hope that we will have a great turnout for auditions!” Pruitt states. “This is going to be an exciting show!”

“Oklahoma!” will run for two weekends in March. Production dates are March 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19. For more information, visit www.oldcolonyplayers.com, or call 828.879.2129.
