Newton, NC – Bandits on the Run, a criminal, whimsical musical trio from New York City, will be blowin’ into town on September 19 to conduct a stick-up at Newton’s Green Room Theatre! Join them for a night of original tunes, off-beat pop music covers, and reworked jazz rock and pop tunes like you’ve never heard before.

One of the bandits, Bonanza Jellyfish (known better around these parts as Sydney Shepherd) is a Hickory native. Sydney discovered her love of performing in the vibrant community theatre and youth orchestra scenes in the area. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and is currently living in New York City with a Broadway show and several film/theatre credits under her belt. She is so excited to return to this wonderful arts community for a brief time to share her band’s music with her hometown!

The Bandits got their rough’n’tumble start busking in the NYC subways and have since become infamous in the Northeast and beyond, picking up spots and features in a variety of programs, from NPR to Elvis Duran’s syndicated Morning Show.

Using guitar, cello, xylophone, tambourine, melodica, shaky banana, and skillful three-part harmony, the bandits have captured the masses with their style that seems to defy genre: at once old and new, nostalgic and unique. All three bring their unique voices and songwriting abilities to the table, creating a variety of sounds and styles that create a musical web of sound hard to pin down, and even harder to resist.

If you want a sneak peek before seeing them in action, you can check out their first album The Criminal Record on iTunes, Spotify, and wherever music is found online. Catch them in the act before they’re on the run again!

The Green Room Theatre is located at 10 S Main Ave, Newton, NC. The Bandits’ concert is Tuesday, September 19, 7:30 PM, and tickets are $15. To buy tickets, call 828.464.6128 or head to: apps.thegreenroomtheatre.org.
