Newton, NC — The Newton Parks and Recreation Department and Catawba County Community College are proud to present a variety of classes this fall which are sure to interest you or someone you know.

Line Dancing: A Fun Way to Exercise
Come learn some popular line dances while getting a great cardio workout. You’ll learn dance steps to pop songs, jazz songs, and country songs. The class will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays from Oct. 4-Nov. 8. Cost for the class is $55 per person. No waivers will be offered; everyone must pay the tuition fee. The instructor is Kristi Marlow.

Quilting: Back to the Basics
You decide what size quilt and what pattern you want to make. You will start with the basics and go from there. This class is designed for beginners to intermediate students. The fee for the class is $45 per person. The class will be 9 a.m.-12 p.m. on Mondays from Sept. 12-Oct. 31. The instructor is Mary Ann Parkhurst.

This is a continuation of Quilting: Back to the Basics. You decide what size quilt and what pattern you want to make. This class is designed for beginners to intermediate students. The fee for the class is $25 per person. The class will be 9 a.m.-12 p.m. on Mondays from Nov. 7-Dec. 5. The instructor is Mary Ann Parkhurst.

Needle Fun
The course is designed for needle crafters of all skill levels. Variety is the spice of life in this class, as participants choose which needle they want to use. It could be a knitting needle, an embroidery needle, or even a crochet hook. The class will be 9 a.m.-12 p.m. on Tuesdays from Sept. 13-Nov. 1. Cost for the class is $45. The instructor is Mary Ann Parkhurst.

Needle Fun Workshop
This is a continuation of Needle Fun. The course is designed for needle crafters of all skill levels, and participants will have the chance to choose which needle they want to use. The class will be 9 a.m.-12 p.m. on Tuesdays from Nov. 8-Dec. 6. Cost for the class is $25. The instructor is Mary Ann Parkhurst.

Stained Glass: Beginning I
Learn the fundamentals of stained glass design in this fun and entertaining class. You will learn how to choose the correct glass, create patterns, cut and grind glass, and complete two projects. A supply list is available prior to the class. The approximate cost of supplies is $75. The class will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Mondays from Sept. 12-Oct. 17. The fee for the class is $60. The instructor is Melanie Zimmerman.

Shag Dance: Beginning
Dancers in this course will be introduced to the dance of the South by learning the six-count method. The course includes the basic shag step, female turn, male turn, chase, cuddle, pivot, lead out, and variations on the fundamental steps. The class will be 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays from Aug. 30-Oct. 4 (class will not be held Sept. 20). Cost for the class is $55 per person. Partners are needed for the class. The instructor is Judy Boston.
