Newton, NC – Newton-Conover Auditorium has a new name, “Newton Performing Arts Center!” This change came after a year of researching of our Executive Director, Marietta Burke, and Board of Directors. “We feel this suits the image we are creating for our facility, this is a new era for our historic building”, states Burke. Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Janie Sigmon says, “We are very proud of the upcoming events we have at the Newton Performing Arts Center and cannot wait to share these with our audiences!”

Some of NewtonPAC’s upcoming events include Love Me Tender Valentine’s Concert with Elvis – February 1st, Paramount’s Pink Floyd Laser Spectacular – February 8th, Murder on the Titanic Murder Mystery Dinner Theater – February 14th and 15th, Beatles Tribute Concert by Abbey Road – March 7th, see www.NewtonPAC.com for more events and details.

The facility is also available for rentals. Many recitals, pageants, weddings, parties and more are held at NewtonPAC each year. The Newton Performing Arts Center’s art gallery, offices, and upstairs were built in 1905, with the Art Deco theater built in 1935. This building has been home to many entities before; Newton-Conover High School,

The Green Room Community Theater, Mud Mama’s Pottery, Hickory Ballet, Discovery High School, and several others. Currently, Footcandle Film Society holds monthly film screenings and the facility is home to The Comedy Zone-Newton.

A taskforce saved the building from demolition in late 1980’s, renovated, and became a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization.

This is one of the only examples of a restored Art Deco theater in NC and a handful in the Southeast.
