Hickory – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s A Cappella Choir and Sacred Music Program will present “Fear Not I Am With You,” a program of music to honor the Church’s annual celebration of the Festival of All Saints. The musical performance will take place on Sunday, October 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Grace Chapel.
Dr. Ryan Luhrs, Director of Choral Activities at LRU is serving as the event’s artistic director and will conduct the choral ensembles. Collaborative artist Jeana Neal Borman will accompany the choir, and University organist Dr. Vince Christ will lead congregational hymn singing. During the program LRU’s A Cappella Choir will sing works by Rupert Lang, Olaf Christiansen, Dan Forrest, the Soweto Gospel Choir, Patrick Burzlaff, Brian Schmidt, Paul Caldwell, and Sean Ivory. The congregation will be invited to join the choir in singing hymns, including “How Firm a Foundation,” “Shall We Gather at the River,” and “Christ, Mighty Savior.” The program is intended to be a worship experience and audience members are asked to hold applause until the event’s conclusion.
“The event’s music and readings are centered on the themes of God’s relationship with us as well as the relationships with those among us and the communion of saints,” Dr. Luhrs said. “The principal message to the listener is ‘you are not alone.’”
Community members are invited to submit names of loved ones who have passed away to Dr. Luhrs at email@example.com or 828.328-7149. Names submitted by Wednesday, October 26 will be included in the program. On the evening of the event, attendees will be invited to light a candle in memory of a loved one as they enter the chapel.
The program is free and open to the public and is not a ticketed event.
