Hickory – Two Lenoir-Rhyne University music programs are celebrating historic anniversary milestones. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the Sacred Music Program and the 80th Anniversary of LRU A Cappella Choir. Both programs will be highlighted as part of LRU Alumni Weekend, April 21 – 23.
A Service of Holy Communion celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Sacred Music Program will be held on Friday, April 22 in Grace Chapel. The organ prelude will begin at 4:15 p.m. prior to the service at 4:30 p.m. Music for the service will be provided by the Lenoir-Rhyne Chapel Choir joined by alumni of the Sacred Music Program. The Rev. Dr. Paul Weber, Professor of Church Music and Director of University Choirs at LRU, will serve as a worship leader. He will be retiring in June following 20 years of service to the University.
The LRU A Cappella Choir and the A Cappella Alumni Choir will perform together for a Reunion Concert on Saturday, April 23 at 2:30 p.m. in Grace Chapel. The concert is being held in tribute to the talented singers – present and past – who have been a part of this renowned choir for 80 years. Dr. Weber will serve as director for the Reunion Concert.
“These are wonderful opportunities to celebrate our heritage,” said Dr. Weber. “We invite our alumni and their families, campus community, as well as the public to attend both the service and concert to share in celebration of these historic milestones of the Lenoir-Rhyne music program.”
