Lincolnton, NC – Rev. Susan Walker, associate pastor of Exodus Missionary Outreach Church and assistant executive director of Exodus Homes in Hickory has accepted a call to become the pastor of Emanuel Reformed Church in Lincolnton. “Seven months ago I went there to preach one Sunday while they were searching for a new pastor, and I was invited back week after week. I was not looking for a call, but that is what God has done. I am very excited about becoming the pastor of a church with such a rich history in Lincolnton” said Walker.
Emanuel Reformed Church is in the United Church of Christ denomination where Walker was ordained last year. Founded in 1785, the church is located in downtown Lincolnton and has deep roots in the community. Walker is the first woman to serve as pastor in the history of the church. The position is part time. Walker will continue serving at Exodus Church and Exodus Homes, although she acknowledges this will be challenging saying “I am very grateful for the flexibility in the Exodus ministry that allows me to weave these two great works together.”
Although Walker has already begun serving, the Western N.C. Association of the United Church of Christ will hold a special service on October 30, 2016 at 4:00pm at Emanuel to formerly install her as pastor. Rev. Reggie Longcrier, senior pastor of Exodus Missionary Outreach Church and executive director of Exodus Homes will be the guest speaker for the installation service. Rev. Patrick Campbell, pastor of Church of the Master UCC will lead the service. Rev. Jerry Rhyne, Minister for Church Affairs with the Western N.C. Association of the UCC will perform the installation. The public is invited to the installation which will be followed by a time of fellowship and light refreshments.
