This event is hosted by the Lincoln County Historical Association, and supported by a grassroots grant from the North Carolina Arts Council.

Nicole A. Moore is a public historian who focuses on the interpretation of slavery at living history sites. Hear her talk about the enslaved experience while preparing a meal over a fire, illustrating the skill and abilities needed for enslaved cooks in their day to day duties. Nicole offers her interpretation in the third person, so she is able to engage with visitors in the present while demonstrating the tasks of the enslaved. Learn about family life, work life and the very little bit of leisure time the enslaved had while they navigated through a legal system that treated them as three-fifths of a person.

Nicole has worked in the museum field for over seven years as an historic interpreter and museum educator. She holds degrees from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in Psychology (B.A. 2004) and History: Public History Concentration (M.A. 2008).

Dontavius Williams is a living historian who presents The Chronicles of Adam. This first person historical interpretation of a slave by the name of Adam is comprised of various accounts, historical facts, and life lessons for viewers of any age to enjoy. Viewers will be thrust back in time to the 19th Century in Antebellum South Carolina and experience a first-hand conversation with Adam the blacksmith. This powerful performance has been deemed “life changing” and even “spiritual” by viewers young and old.

Dontavius, owner of The Chronicles of Adam, is not only a storyteller but a Certified Interpretive Guide who has been trained on the art of interpreting history through various means. He has been doing living history for over ten years. During his tenure at Historic Brattonsville in McConnells, SC, Dontavius learned various skills, including storytelling and hearth cooking.
