Hickory – Due to the Fourth of July holiday the Hickory Survivors of Suicide Support Group will meet Saturday, July 8th at 11 a.m. at the Family Life Center of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 52 16th Ave NW, Hickory, NC 28601. Enter from the rear parking lot.
The group offers support for the families and friends who have lost a loved one to suicide.
The support group structure is changing. Now each session will focus on a different topic on the complicated grief that comes from losing someone to suicide. Topics will include:
Why? Illnesses and environmental triggers most associated with suicide; What about shame and guilt?; How long does the pain last?; What helps?; What about holidays?; How can suicide affect you?
Other topics of concern to the group will also be addressed.
New members will have time at the beginning of each group to share their story if they feel they want to. This group is for anyone whose loss has occurred recently or decades ago as those at different stages all have wisdom to share.
The group provides support for all those who have been expected to have “moved on by now,” and gives participants a place to shed tears with others who know moving on may never happen and that’s okay.
