Each Police Officer is required to operate with an independent work ethic under minimum direct supervision.

Qualification Requirements are; Must be 20 years of age or older, Good health and physical condition, Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (Graduate of a 4 year college or university preferred), Be a United States citizen, Have or be able to obtain a North Carolina Driver’s License, Have an Honorable Military Discharge, General Discharges are evaluated on a case by case basis, Pass an entry level physical ability test (POPAT), Pass an extensive background investigation including psychological examination, polygraph examination, etc, Pass a pre-employment Medical Examination and Drug Screening Test, Must not have a criminal record or a record of serious motor vehicle offenses, Live within 30 mile radius of Police Headquarters (347 Second Avenue SW, Hickory, NC).
