Hickory – ACAP-Hickory (Adult Children of Aging Parents) presents “Paying for Healthcare: Medicare & SHIIP (Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program” on Tuesday, July 10, 5:30-7pm. Location for the program is the Fellowship Hall of Mt Olive Lutheran Church, 2780 North Center Street, Hickory. Speaker for the program is Catherine Fannon, Western Regional Manager, NC Department of Insurance, Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP).

Healthcare costs are skyrocketing. There are so many types of Medicare coverage, but which one is right for your loved one? Medicare provides front-line healthcare cost coverage for most Americans over the age of 65. However, Medicare can sometimes seem complicated and confusing. The July ACAP is designed to help caregivers gain information to help loved ones make good choices about Medicare and SHIIP, but also to help caregivers prepare for their own enrollment in these programs. Catherine Fannon, an expert in Medicare and SHIIP, will help attendees learn: when and how to enroll in Medicare and how Medicare works with other insurance plans such as Employer Group Health Plans; important decisions and choices beneficiaries and caregivers need to consider; differences between Original Medicare, Medicare Supplements, Medicare Prescription Drug Plans, and Medicare Advantage Plans; who pays first when a beneficiary has insurance in addition to Medicare; and details about Medicare services and benefits, the cost associated with Medicare, and the Extra Help and Medicare Savings Programs.

Ms. Fannon, the July ACAP Hickory speaker, has served as the Western Area Regional Manager for the Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP), North Carolina Department of Insurance, since 2013. In that role she provides ongoing education and training for approximately 200 SHIIP volunteers in the 24 counties in the western part of the state.

ACAP-Hickory gratefully acknowledges Kindred at Home and Kingston Residence of Hickory, sponsors for the July program.
