Surry County, NC – The 10th annual Surry Winter Wine & Beer Passport serves up a season full of tasting experiences in Yadkin Valley wine country.

Beginning the day after Thanksgiving (Nov. 29) and continuing through March 22, 2020, the money-saving passport provides 15 tastings at 10 wineries, four breweries and a distillery.

In addition to receiving a tasting at each location, passport holders get discounts at more than two dozen restaurants, lodging options and retail shops. Another perk is a keepsake gift presented to each passport holder during the first tasting. This year’s gift is a wine and beer opener set in a decorative wine-bottle-shaped display case.

The number of tasting experiences this winter has increased 25 percent. Yadkin Valley’s newest winery, Haze Gray Vineyards in Dobson, joins the rotation, along with Thirsty Souls Community Brewing and White Elephant Beer Company, located across the street from each other in downtown Mount Airy.

The passport program is presented annually by the Surry Wineries group. In addition to Haze Gray, it features nine other wineries: Adagio Vineyards, Carolina Heritage, Elkin Creek, Grassy Creek, Roaring River, Round Peak, Shelton Vineyards, Slightly Askew and Stony Knoll.

Two breweries – Angry Troll and Skull Camp – return from last year, pushing the number of breweries to four, while Mayberry Spirits in Mt. Airy becomes the first distillery to participate.

For those looking to stay overnight, the following wineries offer discount lodging on-site: Carolina Heritage, Elkin Creek, Grassy Creek, Round Peak and Slightly Askew. Discounts are also available at Hampton Inn & Suites in Dobson and Fairfield Inn & Suites in Elkin.

“It’s a great time of year to visit because things slow down and you often get to meet the winemakers and brewmasters,” says Jessica Roberts, tourism director for Surry County. “Also, the passport is valid for nearly four months, which gives folks a chance to visit more than once.”

Early-bird pricing is $65 for individual passports and $99 for two-person passports through Nov. 28. Regular pricing begins Nov. 29 with rates of $75 for individuals and $115 for two people. The estimated value of each passport is $250.
