Hickory -Join Patrick Beaver Memorial Library genealogist Peggy Mainess on Thursday, April 25 at 6:30 pm for Genealogy Thursdays. The April workshop will focus on kinship.

Participants will explore how families originated, the three types of family most of us have, and how each family can be used for research. Learn how to use collateral lines. Determine if a person is your first cousin once removed or your second cousin. Consider that terms to designate kinship have changed over time. John, Senior may not be related to John, Junior. Explore the usefulness of DNA testing in determining heritage. This session is all relative.

The Genealogy Thursdays: Kinship Workshop will take place in the Carolina Room on the second floor of the Patrick Beaver Memorial Library.

The workshop is free, but space is limited so registration is required. Register online at www.hickorync.gov/content/library-events or call 828-304-0500 ext. 7235. Patrick Beaver is located at 375 Third Street NE, Hickory.
