Hickory – Genealogy Thursdays Workshop: Southern Ancestors in Freedman’s Bureau Records at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library Join genealogist Peggy Mainess on Thursday, January 11th at 7:00 pm for a workshop on material available through the Freedman’s Bureau Records. Many people think only formerly enslaved African Americans are recorded in the Freedman’s Bureau Records. This is not true. Because of rampant poverty across the South following the Civil War, the Federal Government included impoverished people of all races in the services offered by the Freedman’s Bureau.
This session will explain what records are available, how to find them, and what the researcher can expect to find. The workshop begins at 7:00 p.m. and is free, but space is limited so registration is required. For more information or to register call 304-0500 extension 7235. Patrick Beaver is located at 375 Third Street NE.
