Hickory – Friday, May 13, the City of Hickory’s 2016 Sails Original Music Series will feature singer/songwriter, Dori Freeman from Galax, Virginia. Musically inspired by bluegrass, rhythm and blues, and old country, Freeman has been playing the guitar and writing her own material since she was 15 years old.

Freeman is “a young country singer that has such purity in spirit, poetry, and voice,” said Sails Music Series Coordinator, Bob Sinclair.  “She won most of her audience through a simple YouTube video that caught the eye and ear of an influential artist and producer, Teddy Thompson.  He went to Galax, Virginia to meet her and asked this talented young artist if he could produce her CD.  She agreed and their collaboration created a very highly acclaimed CD that has gotten her bookings at many of the best listening venues.  The CD has received glowing reviews in the NYT, The Rolling Stone, and on NPR.  We are very lucky to have caught this young lady on her way up the musical ladder.  Don’t miss it.”

The show begins at 6 p.m. and audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Old Hickory Brewery and Silver Fork Winery will sell beer and wine in designated areas, and there are a variety of close-by restaurants to patronize.
