Hickory – Looking for a career in the beauty industry where you can express your creative talent as a manicurist? Catawba Valley Community College is offering manicurist training beginning this fall.

CVCC’s manicurist program provides competency-based knowledge, scientific and artistic principles and hands-on fundamentals for the nail care industry. Students learn in a simulated salon environment that helps develop practical skills.

This comprehensive program is targeted toward those interested in becoming registered manicurists, or nail technicians, only and not desiring to become licensed cosmetologists.

Instruction includes clinical practice in manicuring natural nails, building and maintaining artificial nails, and pedicuring. Course content includes nail health and anatomy, actual practice in manicuring, and arm, hand, and foot manipulations.

Graduates qualify to sit for the State Board of Cosmetic Arts Examination that grants nail technician licenses. Board certified nail technicians can find employment in spas and nail salons, hair salons or operate their own business.

The course is held Monday through Friday, October 14 through February 24. Monday and Tuesday, class is held 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, class is held 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.
