Hickory – There’s nothing quite like celebrating the holidays in Hickory, America’s Top Tinsel Town according to Realtor.com.

The Hickory holiday season officially kicked off on November 22 with the City’s annual Lowes Foods Christmas parade and tree lighting in downtown. Each year, the holiday kick-off event draws thousands of spectators to Downtown Hickory to celebrate the start of the holiday season.

In continuing the celebration of the season, the City of Hickory offers a number of festive activities and events throughout the month of December.

Sit with Santa
Tuesday | December 10 | 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. | Highland Recreation Center
Join us to take “Pics with St. Nick” at the annual Sit with Santa event. Santa and Mrs. Claus, along with their helpers, will take Christmas wishes and provide a variety of holiday treats and games.

Senior Christmas Luncheon
Thursday | December 12 | 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. | Highland Recreation Center
Enjoy festive food, fun, and fellowship at this Christmas holiday event for seniors, ages 50 and better. All food will be provided and there will be special Christmas music by the award-winning Acapella Fellas.

Ceramic Ornaments with Mud Mamas Studio
Thursday | December 12 | 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. | Ridgeview Branch Library

Come get your hands on some clay and learn how to make a simple and fun holiday decoration! Sculptors from Mud Mamas Studio will guide participants through the process of creating their very own handmade ornament. Use it to decorate for the holidays or give it away as a one-of-a-kind gift!
