Valdese, NC – The annual Blue Christmas Benefit Concert for the Alzheimer’s Association of Western North Carolina presented by Robert Kearns will be held at the Old Rock School in Valdese this Saturday, December 17th, at 7:30pm. This is the 7th year of this event and it has become a favorite for music lovers in the state.
Robert Kearns originally from Conover, North Carolina, spearheaded this event in memory of his father, Tom Kearns who suffered from Alzheimer’s during the last few years of his life. “Robert brings together some of the best local talent in the area and presents a magical night of music that raises thousands of dollars for the Alzheimer’s Association,” states Morrissa Angi, Community Affairs Director for the Town of Valdese.
This year, the lineup will include several familiar faces, as well as new performers to the Blue Christmas event. There will be performances by The Harris Brothers, Bearwallow with Bobby Denton, Jonathan Birchfield, the Shelby Rae Moore Band, the Sigmon Stringers, Tony Bailey, Greg Simmons, and the Mull Sisters. Headlining the show will be the Artimus Pyle Band with Robert Kearns.
Artimus Pyle is best known for being the drummer for Lynyrd Skynyrd from 1974 to 1991. After his departure from Lynyrd Skynyrd, he began working on several solo projects, which culminated into The Artimus Pyle Band, a high-energy tribute band to the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd. He is joined by seasoned musicians Brad Durden, Jerry Lyda, Tony Black and Scott Raines.
“We are excited to have such talented musicians on the Old Rock School stage,” says Angi. “This concert will have a little something for everyone, from Bluegrass to Rock. We always have a great turnout for this show and it has become one of our favorite annual events here in Valdese. It supports a wonderful cause and we are proud to host it at the Old Rock School.”
All proceeds for this concert will be donated to the Western NC Alzheimer’s Association. The Alzheimer’s Association is the premier national voluntary not-for-profit organization dedicated to the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. The Western Carolina Chapter provides patient and family services, information and referral, education, and advocacy in the 49 Western North Carolina counties. They also provide a variety of services including Support Groups, a Helpline, Educational Programs, Circle of Hope, and MedicAlert(r)+Alzheimer’s Association Safe Return(r).
