Hickory – Twenty years ago Rev. Reggie Longcrier stepped away from the AME Zion denomination to found Exodus Missionary Outreach Church which would reach out to the least of these in our community. They started in a funeral home chapel with a vision to create a housing program that would serve homeless recovering people returning to the community from treatment centers and prison. Today, they have been in their own church home on Highland Ave NE in Hickory since 2003, and Exodus Homes is an award winning United Way agency that has earned a national reputation for excellence. In addition to being the founder of the church and the non profit arm at Exodus Homes, he has also been the chaplain of Catawba Correctional Center in Newton for the past 30 years. His award winning work in restorative justice and racial reconciliation has changed our community and saved thousands of lives.
The church celebrated their 20th anniversary in July, and they are hosting a community appreciation banquet in honor of Longcrier and his many accomplishments in ministry on October 15, 2017 at 4:00pm at First Presbyterian Church in Hickory. The banquet is free and those whose lives have been touched by his work are invited to attend.
First Presbyterian Church is located at 237 2nd St NW, Hickory, NC, 28601.
