“So…how are you enjoying the apocalypse?” This inquiry has been made on several occasions over the past couple of weeks. To fellow survivors, encountered on the rare occasions I’ve ventured from the safety of quarantine to acquire needed supplies. Delivered in good humor with a smirking smile, a quirked brow and oft responded to in kind. However, there is always a pause, just before they relax and respond, a mere moment of- “OMG…is he being serious? Is it the…”

Yes he’s serious … sort of…in a hypothetically serious kind of way. What the hell do you think this is? This is a potential apocalypse in the making. Ya’ know it’s forgivable that most folks don’t recognize an apocalypse when they see one. Movies based on the subject are usually set in the “post”-apocalypse, usually skirting over the actual apocalypse part. But how do you think they reach that point of desolation and depopulation…the post apocalypse has to start somewhere? No worries though because…THIS WAS A TEST…IT WAS ONLY A TEST. Had this been an actual apocalypse you’d be worried about more than finding something to wipe your a** with…this was only a test. So did you pass? Or were you distracted by…
QUESTIONING QUARANTINE?

Though it’s almost over now, it would be impolite not to ask, how was your quarantine? Regardless of you status quo, it’s been a struggle across the board in one form or another. Struggles aside, did you spend some quality time with your family? This was a rare opportunity- quarantines don’t happen every day ya know. Or did you waste it b****ing about being oppressed by the government? It’s funny how most of us go to work daily to be able to afford a place to call home and then some complain about being forced to stay in it. If you consider being “trapped” at home oppression perhaps you should reconsider your choices in what you call home and your homies. Of course if you weren’t complaining about being oppressed at home you’d have probably complained about being one of …
THE ESSENTIALS!

It bruises the ego to learn that you and your job are insignificant in keeping the world turning. It’s just one of those humbling life lessons that it will go on with or without you. Once you’ve licked your wounds and gotten over yourself, take a minute for someone else, specifically the someones who’ve kept things going so you can keep going. Let’s take a minute right now — a sincere THANK YOU to all the grocery clerks, gas station attendants, teachers, medical, police, fire and rescue personnel and all you other essential folks; those who’ve put your health and wellbeing on the line. As for the rest of us, hopefully we’ll all be going back to work again soon and our own jobs more…
STIMULATING!

So… are you feeling…stimulated? And now we’re all uncomfortable. Rest assured that the same ones who’ve complained about government oppressing quarantines were more than eager to be stimulated by the same government. Then complain about how they’re being stimulated while they spend it. Those same idiots will be the ones to blow their stimulation on big screen TVs and game systems. Then wonder why they can’t make their stimulation last. Don’t be a stimulated idiot. The important thing now is to be…
CONSERVATIVE!

If there is any lesson to be taken away from all of this, aside from washing your hands, it’s practicing conservation. Learning that we can live with less and appreciating what we already have more. Lessening our impact on our world and respecting its limited resources may save the planet and in turn ourselves. The lifestyles and lessons we’ve learned during these trying times should still remain in place even when things get…
BACK TO NORMAL!

Okay let’s chase to the cut – we can pretty much screw things ever getting back to normal. At least not the “normal” we were used to before. That normal is gone, lost to an earth effecting event. Now we will have to redefine what we define as “the norm” and maybe that’s a good thing. It’s not clean-slate, but maybe we can clean it up and look at it from an abnormal perspective. Maybe we can make this normal better than normal.
