Newton, NC – The Green Room Community Theatre will hold auditions for Bright Star on June 23 & 24, 2019 at 7pm. Please mark your calendar and audition for the first show of our 2019-20 Season.
The show is produced by Automated Machine Design, directed by David Townsend, musically directed by Jeff Hartman, and choreographed by Melissa Statema.
Bright Star is from Grammy, Emmy, and Academy Award-winning Steve Martin and Grammy Award-winning Edie Brickell. Broadway’s Bright Star tells a sweeping tale of family, love, and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s, ‘30s and ‘40s. The story unfolds as a rich tapestry of deep emotion, beautiful melodies, and moving performances. An uplifting theatrical journey that holds you tight in its grasp, Bright Star is as refreshingly genuine as it is daringly hopeful.
Roles in Bright Star are available for males and females ages 17 and up. The director is looking for a cast of 20 actors for this musical. Please prepare a song (about 16 bars) from the show or in the same style of the show. Please bring sheet music for the accompanist. A cappella auditions are discouraged. Your audition song should showcase your individual abilities and not mimic another’s performance. Be prepared to have fun!!
You must be available for all performances which are scheduled for September 6,7,8,13,14,15,20,21, & 22 and a producer’s night to be scheduled. Please bring your list of rehearsal conflicts with you. You MUST be able to attend all of Tech Week (September 1-5, 2019), unless in rare emergency cases an exception is approved before being cast by the director.
You may be asked to do a cold reading from the script. Wear comfortable clothing for the dance/movement portion of the audition. Please bring dance shoes if you have them or wear hard-soled shoes. Flip flops or open-toed shoes are not permitted. Being able to dance is not a requirement, but may help determine casting.
All auditions will be held at the Old Post Office Playhouse located at 10 South Main Avenue, Newton, NC 28658. Please enter at the lower level door at the back of the building (on South Ashe Avenue).
