aprilcturnerHickory – April C. Turner returns to the Hickory Public Libraries for another stirring performance of traditional African dances beginning at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 26, at the Ridgeview Recreation Center as part of the 2016 summer reading program, On Your Mark, Get Set, Read.

Dance has been a way of communicating stories and strengthening community bonds for thousands of years. April C. Turner will demonstrate how African culture celebrates nearly all community events with dance as she shares dances and stories from her travels there. We will learn greetings in the Wolof language of West Africa and share songs together as part of our community-building experience.

Turner is an independent film and television actress as well as an accomplished writer, actress and theater producer. She is also an experienced facilitator specializing in using art as a tool for positive social change. Everyone benefits from experiencing more art so come reap the benefits of an hour of dance, song and shared joy on Tuesday morning, July 26, beginning at 10:00 am.

The Ridgeview Recreation Center and Hickory Parks and Recreation have generously agreed to allow us the use of their gymnasium for this event so that larger groups can be accommodated.
