Hickory – ACAP-Hickory (Adult Children of Aging Parents) presents “Alzheimer’s and Other Age-Related Dementias:  An Overview”  on Tuesday, October 10, 5:30-7:00 p.m.  For the October ACAP only, the program will be offered at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church Family Life Center, 52 16th Ave. NW, Hickory.  Speaker for the program is Robert Brown, MSW, LCSW, CDP, Executive Director, Supportive Solutions, LLC.

Mom forgot why she was going to the store.  Dad sometimes has difficulty finding the right word.  Mom asks the same question over and over.  Dad seems depressed.  Are these signs of normal aging, or could they be symptoms of Alzheimer’s or a related dementia?

Having been the primary caregiver for a grandparent who had Alzheimer’s, Robert Brown, the October ACAP speaker, brings personal as well as professional expertise as he guides others in understanding Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, teaches techniques for effective interaction with loved ones with dementia, and serves as a tireless advocate for legislative support.

Attendees at the October ACAP will learn basic information about Alzheimer’s disease and other types of age-related dementia, how memory changes due to Alzheimer’s and other dementias are different from those of normal aging, and strategies for effective interaction with loved ones with dementia.
