Hickory – ACAP-Hickory (Adult Children of Aging Parents) presents “Elder Abuse and Fraud.” The program will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 5:30-7:00pm in the Fellowship Hall of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Hickory (2780 N. Center Street, Hickory). Presenter for the program is Lauren Benbow, J.D., NC Secretary of State’s Office, Securities Division, Investor Education Program.
Vulnerable elders are some of our most manipulated and exploited citizens, particularly when it comes to their finances. How can we best ensure the financial safety of our elder loved ones? What are the “red flags” that something is wrong? What can we do if financial abuse is suspected?
Lauren Benbow, attorney with the NC Secretary of State’s Securities Division Investor Education Program, our June ACAP-Hickory presenter, will help attendees recognize the scope and reach of elder financial abuse, learn the consequences of elder financial abuse (emotional, mental and physical), become aware of the warning signs and red flags of elder financial abuse, and identify the resources available for reporting elder fraud and financial abuse.
