Newton, NC -As North Carolina enters Phase 1 of Gov. Roy Cooper’s easing of stay-at-home restrictions, the City of Newton has resumed public access to City Hall. Access to other City buildings and facilities remains modified or suspended. Details include:

Newton City Hall

Regular hours for Newton City Hall are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday until further notice.

Utility Customer Service

• All customers are encouraged to avoid paying bills in person at City Hall and to use alternate payment methods, including the drop box outside City Hall, by mail, through our online portal at www.newtonnc.gov, or by calling 888-272-9829.

• Utility customer service at Newton City Hall, which includes establishing and disconnecting City utility services, is conducted by appointment only. Utility customer service at Newton City Hall will not be offered to walk-in customers without an appointment. Customers may call 828-695-4300 to make an appointment. Customer service staff are available by phone at 828-695-4300 to help customers complete paperwork before they arrive at City Hall for their scheduled appointment.

Planning and Zoning Department: Planning and Zoning Department staff are available by phone and email. Plans and permit applications must be submitted electronically. Newton Police Department

Public access to the Newton Police Department is limited to emergencies. Non-emergency concerns and questions should be addressed by calling the Police Department at 828-465-7430. If you have an emergency, call 911.

Newton Fire Department

Public access to the Newton Fire Department is limited to emergencies. Non-emergency concerns and questions should be addressed by calling the Fire Department at 828-695-4314. If you have an emergency, call 911.

Newton Parks and Recreation Department

Public access is suspended to all Newton Parks and Recreation Department buildings, including recreation centers, gyms, and workout rooms.

Newton parks, including Southside Park, Northside/Broyhill Park, Westside/Jaycee Park, East Newton Park, and Jacob Fork Park, as well as the Heritage Trail Greenway, remain open. Restrooms at all Newton parks are closed; please use the restroom before you visit. Please practice good hygiene and observe the CDC’s minimum recommended physical distancing of six feet from other people. Newton Public Works and Utilities Department

Public access is suspended to the Newton Public Works Facility. Concerns and questions should be addressed by calling the City of Newton at 828-695-4300.

Downtown Newton Development Association
