Tyronn Lue

Tyronn Lue was hired this week as the top assistant coach by the Los Angeles Clippers.

I found the hire quite ironic. Lue, if you remember, turned down the Los Angele Lakers head coaching job a few months ago.

In other words, Lue chose to be the number two man for the Clippers instead of being the top man for the Lakers. Kind of embarrassing for the Lakers don’t you think?

Something like this would have never happened in the past. The Lakers have always owned Los Angeles and the Clippers took what was left. At this moment in time, the Lakers are as dysfunctional as any franchise in the NBA. Lue wanted no part of it and chose as assistant’s job down the street with the Clippers and head coach Doc Rivers.

Lue will be joining a team with high expectations heading into 2019-20. The Clippers retooled their roster this offseason as they signed star Kawhi Leonard in free agency and acquired Paul George in a blockbuster trade with the Thunder.

Dodgers Could Win It All

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been knocking on the door of a World Series title for quite some time now. Playoff struggles have become the norm in recent years. This year could be different as long time ace, Clayton Kershaw, is pitching as good as ever.

Clayton Kershaw

Recent rumors of Kershaw’s demise have all but ended. Injuries have hampered the left-hander since 2015. But of late, it appears vintage Kershaw is back, and he might vault the Dodgers from obvious World Series hopefuls to World Series champions.

Since the All-Star break, Kershaw has a 1.42 ERA with 50 strikeouts in 38 innings and has held opposing hitters to a .160 average.

After posting a 1.44 ERA in July, he’s got a 1.35 ERA in August. Kershaw has played a large part in the Dodgers compiling a major league best 82-44 entering play Monday.

Kershaw and his fellow Dodger pitchers have been getting a great deal of offense support from the likes of slugger Cody Bellinger. The likely NL MVP already has 42 home runs and is hitting close to .320.

Yes, this could be the Dodgers year. I see them matching up against Houston in this fall’s World Series.
