Hickory – Join us at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. for an enjoyable, musical, and patriotic evening with a trio of musicians representing the Hickory Jazz Orchestra. The Hickory Jazz Orchestra began in 2008 and has performed at numerous events in Hickory and surrounding communities.

The jazz trio consists of David Wortman, Charles Smith, and Gary Schwartz. David Wortman is a Band Director at Northview Middle School in Hickory. He is in demand as a saxophonist and woodwind doubler with numerous professional jazz ensembles, small groups, and pit orchestras. Charles Smith is a corporate educator for BB&T Insurance Services and a faculty member at Caldwell Community College. He is the timpanist for the Western Piedmont Symphony and the Hickory Choral Society and he regularly performs with the Just Friends Jazz trio, as well as in solo and group steel pan settings. Gary Schwartz’s career included teaching band in Winston-Salem, retailing piano and organs and many years in the computer industry. He is the pianist with the Hickory Jazz Orchestra, the L-R Jazz Ensemble, the Just Friends Jazz Trio and regularly plays solo and with other groups in the area.
