Hickory – Hickory Community Theatre is pleased to announce a new series of tech classes taught by Technical Director and artist Clay James.

Clay got his MFA from the Academy of Art University and has worked as an Adjunct Instructor at Lenoir-Rhyne University.

His vast experience in design and construction will provide a wealth of information to students who sign up for his new series of introductory classes.

Carpentry Basics
Ages 18+
Duration: 5 workshop sessions (Each session is 3 hours)
Place: Hickory Community Theatre
Wednesdays from 6 PM-9 PM
July 29-Aug 26

To introduce the student to the basics of carpentry through a series of progressive workshops. These workshops will start with basic skills and work toward increasingly complex problems. The class features instruction on tools of the trade, working with and understanding lumber types, and working with blueprints and designs. Students will work on the completion of a hands-on construction project as part of their course work.
$35 per session, plus a one-time material cost of $20.All materials supplied at class.

Design Basics
Ages 14+
Duration: 5 workshop sessions (Each individual session is 3 hours)
Place: Hickory Community Theatre
Mondays from 9AM-12PM
July 27-Aug 24

To introduce students to the principles of design and the elements of art with hands on exercises creating an original design project.
$35 per session, plus a one time material cost of $15. All materials supplied at class.

Drawing Basics
Ages 14+
Duration: 5 workshop sessions (Each session is 3 hours)
Place: Hickory Community Theatre
Saturdays from 1 PM-4 PM
Aug 8-Aug 22

Introducing students to the basics of drawing and working with drawing materials including understanding perspective, light and shadow, and Chiaroscuro producing an 18×24 final project.
$35 per session, plus a one-time material cost of $25. All materials supplied at class.
