Hickory – The inaugural Catawba River Grand Strander’s Friendship Association’s Picnic and Party Social to be held at Glenn Hilton Jr. Park, located at 2000 6th St. NW, Hickory, will be on Saturday, September 16th at 10 am. Rain or Shine.
Bring a folding chair, cooler, picnic basket, umbrella, Roy Orbison sunglasses, and a big pretty smile! Feel free to bring your own supplemental entertainment ideas, such as checkers, football, horseshoes, books or magazines, knitting, crocheting, quilting, playing cards, or croquet sets! Most importantly, must bring a nostalgic keepsake to share with everyone to express yourself, your life and interests.

Wear your pedal pushers, madras shirt and straw hat! Wear your high school cheerleader outfit or baseball uniform! Come in your hot rod with poodle skirt, bobby sox and pony tail! Drive your 1956 Cadillac, Model A, or 1951 Henry J you ordered out of a Sears-Roebuck catalog!

Be sure to bring your sense of humor. Bring your nostalgic question of the day, nostalgic fact of the day, and a short nostalgic history lesson. There will be awards for “Outstanding Dressed,” “Koolest Hot Rod” and “Biggest Smile.” Also for Koolest name-tag! I am KAT, so look for the Kat in the black and white striped referee shirt to start.

A Don Garlits sign says, “Great people talk about ideas, average people talk about things, small people talk about other people.” Great ideas start with One Simple Step. This is our step! I cannot do this by myself, it must be a group effort. You are the group! Come happy and leave happy!
