The greatest need currently is for funds to purchase healthy shelf stable items for food boxes. These boxes will help feed families whose children are missing school meals, seniors being asked to stay safely in their homes, those in need of food who are quarantined, and employees in our community being impacted by decreases in work hours.

Within the next 30 days, we will be packing tens of thousands of these food boxes and you can help us in two ways:

DONATE
• Make a donation of $25 that will help provide a sever day nutritionally balanced food box.
• Make a donation of $13 for a food box that will include 12-13 healthy staple items.
• Make a donation of $7 that will help provide an additional backpack for children missing school meals.

VOLUNTEER

As a safety precaution, we are asking volunteers and staff to stay home if they experience any symptoms of illness, or if they have traveled to high-risk locations within the last 30 days.

At this time, volunteer sessions are planned to run as scheduled, however, due to many company policies during the virus outbreak, quite a few regular groups have had to cancel their shifts. We are in desperate need of volunteers to help fill those shifts. The Food Bank is taking every safety precaution for our volunteers and staff including increased cleaning/sanitizing of our facility after each volunteer shift, consistent handwashing, along with social distancing. To keep our volunteer group numbers limited, we are hosting small volunteer groups (10 or less) starting next week.

We’re still open and we need your help! Please visit and bookmark our Pandemic Help page for updates on special needs. (And follow us on Facebook!)

We plan to continue operation as long as is safe and possible. Dine-in service is suspended, but we are still providing more than 200 meals to-go every day to-go. Our donations from grocery stores are down 70%, while requests for our help are skyrocketing. Your donations are needed now more than ever!

Donations of cash are gratefully accepted! We use your dollars to purchase groceries and supplies from food bank partners at deep discounts. This helps us continue to serve our usual daily meals and stock our own Food Pantry with take-home groceries.

Financial Donations can be excepted at https://hickorysoupkitchen.org/pandemic-help

We gratefully accept donations of all types of food – whether fresh, canned, or frozen. Call ahead to (828)-327-4828 to make a “contactless” drop-off during business hours!
