Hickory – If you want to be among the South’s finest folk artists, look no further than the Hickory Metro Convention Center, May 18 and 19. That is when the Carolina Folkfest will be making its debut with an exciting gathering of the brightest stars in Southern folk art. Artists from nine states will exhibit and sell their colorful paintings, bright wood carvings, and fantastic pottery.

The ArtShowGirls, producers of the Carolina Folkfest, promise “this is where art and fun collide! Folk Art is bright, creative and comes with tons of spirit. Many folk artists have used recycled and repurposed materials before that was even fashionable,” says show director Michaella Dalton. “Expect to be amazed at the wonderful, bright and free-spirited work and enjoy the artists themselves. Many have work in museums, galleries and collections around the world, but they are all very easy and fun to get to know.”

The Carolina Folkfest is a juried show featuring folk art for the home and garden, plus functional and unusual craft items. Show hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, May 18 and 19. Admission is $6.00 for adults. Students and Seniors are $5.00, and children 12 and under are free. Parking at the Hickory Metro Convention Center is free. Tickets are available online at artshowgirls.com and at the door. The website also has complete event details including a detailed list of all the exhibiting artists.
