Hickory – The Catawba County Democratic Party (CCDP) is hosting a candidate information session on June 12 for people interested in running for municipal offices, like city councilor and mayor, or for school board.
The session is also relevant for anyone considering a run for state office, e.g., state representative or senator.
The November 2017 ballot includes a number of nonpartisan positions, including Newton City Council, Maiden Council and Mayor, Newton-Conover School Board, Hickory School Board, Hickory aldermen and mayor, and more. The complete list of open offices is on the Catawba County Board of Elections website at: www.catawbacountync.gov/elections/
“These are important offices,” say Marcus Williams, Catawba County Democratic Party chair. “You can really make a difference at the local level and we need bright, strong progressives at the table.”
The June 12 forum, to be held at 6 p.m. at CCDP Headquarters at 1612 Tate Blvd. SE, Hickory, will feature a current elected local official and a former Democratic Party County Chair, who managed a number of campaigns and also did fundraising for the NC Democratic Party.
The forum is free of charge and includes a light buffet supper. Contact Gabriel Sherwood, 828-639-0490, for any information.
