Newton, NC – Having an internet connection is essential for how we live, work, and play. If you don’t have access, the Catawba County Library can help. Each branch offers Wi-Fi hotspots and laptops for patrons to check out, take home, and use to manage online needs at their convenience.

One hotspot can provide internet access for up to 10 devices at a time, so various family members can do homework, get job training, do research, stream digital resources, find healthy recipes, connect with family, or just surf the web for news and information. And since the hotspots create a portable, high-speed internet connection, an entire household can work or play at the same time.

With previous borrowers, hotspots were used by families who had recently moved and whose service had not yet been connected, by people who would have had to jump through hoops to find a workable internet solution in rural areas, and by students and job seekers who needed online resources to be successful and competitive.

Checking out a hotspot or laptop requires a little bit of training and paperwork at pick-up, so borrowers should allow 10-15 minutes to complete the process. Equipment is available at all seven library locations and is available to Catawba County residents 18 and older with a photo ID with current address. Additional instructions and the do’s and don’ts of using and returning the equipment are shared the first time a patron picks up the technology.
