Genealogy Workshop At Beaver Memorial Library Thurs., Jan. 12

Hickory – Patrick Beaver Memorial Library is offering a Genealogy Workshop on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.  Join Peggy Mainess, Hickory Public Library’s Genealogist, in a presentation about using religious and funeral records in genealogy research.

Centuries before civil registration, the clergy were recording the details surrounding major life events of church families.  Researchers can use information from these sources to locate an ancestor’s vital details.  Closely allied with church records are funeral and interment records.  Participants will discuss the types of records available, how to locate those records, how religion affects record keeping, and the importance of graveyard visits.

The Genealogy Workshop is free, but registration is required.  Space is limited because the workshop will take place in Patrick Beaver Memorial Library’s Carolina Room on the second floor.  To register, call 304-0500 ext. 7235.  Patrick Beaver Memorial Library is located at 375 3rd Street NE on the SALT Block.
