Hickory – ACAP-Hickory (Adult Children of Aging Parents) presents Paying for Healthcare:  Medicare and SHIIP (Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program) on Tuesday, July 11, 5:30-7:00 p.m., at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church Family Life Center (52 16th Ave. NW, Hickory).  Please note this location is for the July ACAP program only.

Medicare provides front-line health cost coverage for most Americans over the age of 65.  Medicare, however, can sometimes seem complicated and confusing.  The July ACAP-Hickory program is designed to help caregivers gain information to help loved ones make good choices about Medicare and SHIIP as well as helping caregivers prepare for their own enrollment in these programs.

Attendees will learn when and how to enroll in Medicare, about important decisions and choices beneficiaries and caregivers need to consider, and how Medicare works with other insurance plans; differences between original Medicare, Medicare Supplements, Medicare Prescription Drug Plans, and Medicare Advantage Plans; who pays first when a beneficiary has insurance in addition to Medicare; and details about Medicare services and benefits, the costs associated with Medicare, and the Extra Help and Medicare Savings Programs.

As the Western Area Regional Manager, NC Department of Insurance, Catherine Fannon, the July ACAP-Hickory presenter, is an expert in Medicare and SHIIP (Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program).  In her current role she provides ongoing education, training and support for approximately 200 SHIIP volunteers in the 24 counties in the western part of the state as well as offering community outreach for Medicare and SHIIP.

Prior to her current position, Ms. Fannon served as Family Caregiver Resource Specialist at an Area Agency on Aging in Eastern North Carolina for eleven years, providing Medicare counseling to beneficiaries and family caregivers.

We hope you will join us for this important program!  To register for this FREE program, please contact us at fhall@ACAPcommunity.org or, toll-free, 1-877-599-ACAP (2227).

ACAP-Hickory gratefully acknowledges Hickory Falls Health & Rehabilitation, ResCare HomeCare and Trinity Ridge as sponsors for the July ACAP program.

ACAP-Hickory, the local chapter of ACAPcommunity, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, provides information, resources, support and community for adult-child caregivers as they care for their aging parents and for themselves.

Cost-free educational programs are offered the 2nd Tuesday of each month, 5:30-7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Hickory (2780 North Center Street, Hickory, NC) unless otherwise noted.  Although designed for adult-child caregivers, programs are open to all who are interested.
